Henry Cowell - The Voice of Lir
Tricia Dawn Williams started studying the piano at the age of six, obtaining distinction in all grades, claiming first prize for eight consecutive years and awarded medals for outstanding results by the Trinity College of Music, London. She achieved the ALCM and ATCL performer diplomas at the age of 17. She studied organ with Rev. Albert Borg and for several years was principal organist of the Basilica of Our Lady of Victories in Senglea, Malta. Since 1999 she has been specialising in 20th century and contemporary music with Mro Pawlu Grech. Over the years she gave several recitals, collaborating with various composers to premier their work internationally. Williams currently forms part of three ensembles: ‘Crossbreed’ – promoting contemporary music rooted in Mediterranean heritage; ‘Equinox Trio’ – featuring 20th century and contemporary music; ‘Nafra folk ensemble’ which is often invited to participate in international World Music festivals. Williams performs on the CD accompanying the award winning publication: ‘A Guide to Maltese Folk Music’ released in 2006 and on the CD ‘Arabesque’ featuring classical contemporary music released in 2009. A more recent recording project is the CD of a piano cycle which accompanies the publication ‘Maltese Folktales’ produced by Soundscapes in 2010.
