One of the objectives of the Malta Association for Contemporary Music is to facilitate exchanges and cooperation with international organisations. The 4th event within the Contemporary Sounds concert series takes place in Venice in collaboration with the music conservatory Benedetto Marcello and the university of Venice Ca’Foscari. Maltese pianist Charlene Farrugia presented a programme of contemporary music by Maltese composers while the students and teachers from the Venice conservatory presented a programme of contemporary music by Venetian composers. A seminar was also organised at Auditorium Santa Margherita entitled “Modern influences and Improvisation in Mediterranean Music”. Maltese composers Ruben Zahra and Karl Fiorini contributed to the seminar by presenting papers on their work. The other speakers participating in the seminar were Giovanni de Zorzi and Daniele Goldoni from the University of Venice and Federica Lotti from the music conservatory. This event has established an ongoing relationship between Malta and Venice in view of future collaborations and EU projects concerning contemporary music. This partnership between the Malta Association for Contemporary Music and cultural institutions in Venice is entitled the Pisces Project. Supported by the MALTA ARTS FUND.
